Class of 2020 UNC Basketball recruit Day’Ron Sharpe has another big game in the John Wall Holiday Invitational and he picked up an accolade along the way.

For the second-straight year, a North Carolina commit has won the “Most Outstanding Player” award at the John Wall Holiday Invitational in Raleigh.

Last year it was commit Coby White who put on a show, breaking the longtime tournament scoring record set by Donald Williams and picking up the Most Outstanding Player Award despite Greenfield losing in the title game. This year, Sharpe had a very similar outcome.

The class of 2020 center didn’t break the scoring record but he was certainly one of the standouts in the tournament over the past few days.

In the title game of the T.J. Warren bracket, Sharpe and South Central fell to Ranney 63-58 on Saturday night but it was another big game for the center. Sharpe finished with 24 points and 20 rebounds, his second game of the tournament in which he finished with 20+rebounds.

The center had the big game with UNC head coach Roy Williams in attendance, driving down the road to the tournament following the Tar Heels’ win over Davidson on Saturday.

In the three games this tournament, Sharpe averaged 18.0 points, 17.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. A pretty impressive stat line in a tournament full of talent.

Sharpe offered his verbal to UNC back in June of 2018, telling the program he was committed on Father’s Day. He became the first player to commit to UNC in the 2020 class and got the Tar Heels off to a great start.

Since that commitment, Sharpe has really elevated his game.

He’s climbed up the recruiting rankings as a four-star prospect and is considered a Top 25 player in the 2020 class. The way Sharpe is playing so far this season, he could very well move into the Top 15 and Top 10 at some point.

Sharpe will continue his junior year at South Central and then likely play on the AAU circuit come Spring and Summer.
