The Veteran Lineup

G – Seventh Woods
G – Kenny Williams
F – Cam Johnson
F – Luke Maye
F – Garrison Brooks

Why?

These players have been through the wringer, winning in tough environments, facing adversity, and learning from former Tar Heels. A lot of it was baptism by fire, but this group was able to come out unscathed.

Everyone in this lineup has played at least season in the UNC system, and four of them are upperclassmen. The common debate is college basketball is talent vs. experience. This isn’t the most talented roster UNC has to offer, but it’s definitely the most experienced, and experience is the best teacher.

Strengths

The chemistry is already there; these players won’t get fazed by pressure situations, and there’s still a good balance between offense and defense on this squad. Woods is in control at the point, Williams and Johnson are the two shooters, Maye and Brooks do everything else.

Everybody knows their role and knows what it takes to win. It’s quite apparent that Williams trusts this group the most (along with White) so it’s really a veteran lineup plus a mature freshman.

Weaknesses

This lineup will have a slower tempo which will result in fewer possessions. Ideally, UNC would like to be at an up-tempo pace scoring in the high 80s/low 90s.

This lineup will also have a hard time defending a good shooting opponent. Williams will naturally be on the opponents’ best player, but more than like teams will have at least two players with range.
