5-star power forward Isaiah Todd dishes on his recruitment

Five-star power forward Isaiah Todd is playing well and making a name for himself, and as a result, he’s quickly becoming one of the most coveted prospects in the class of 2020.

The 6-foot-10, 200-pound Todd has a terrific combination of size, skill and athleticism, often drawing comparisons to Chris Bosh and Kevin Durant. His seven-foot wingspan and standing reach of 8-feet-11-inches coupled with his tremendous quickness and speed in the open court make him a mismatch nightmare for opponents. Throw in the polished offensive game that he possesses, and Todd immediately separates himself from the pack.

A junior at Trinity Academy of Raleigh, Todd has already attracted the attention of just about every big name program in the nation. He’s currently holding more than 20 scholarship offers including ones from Kansas, Florida, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, UCLA, Villanova and Wake Forest. And despite the fact that Duke and Kentucky have not offered him yet, both the Blue Devils and Wildcats will likely play a part in his recruitment before the dust settles.

Although Todd has not yet complied a list of finalists, he has taken trips to see a few of the schools on his radar. Maryland, North Carolina and Oklahoma State are among those schools, and Todd recently shared his thoughts on each program with Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans.

"“I don’t have any favorites, but UNC being so close and it being about basketball, I try to get out there as much as I can,” Todd said. “They like to do things in a family-oriented way and get to know you more compared to others.”"

Even though Todd states that he has no early favorites, it’s a good sign for the Tar Heels that he’s visited their Chapel Hill campus twice in the last three weeks. Roy Williams and company have begun prioritizing Todd, making him one of their top targets in the class of 2020. His ability to run the floor, shoot from all over the court and create space for shooters with his size advantage in the post would mesh well with Williams’ patented high-octane offense.

He’s also got a fabulous work ethic and competitive edge that is matched by few players his age. Intangibles such as those, combined with his high level of skill on the court, quickly put him on the Tar Heels’ radar.

"“I feel like I have a chip on my shoulder no matter where I am at in the rankings,” Todd said. “I always have something to prove. Not just with the rankings but whoever I am stepping in front of. That is that Kobe mentality that I try to play with.”"

Don’t expect an announcement from Todd any time soon, though. A college decision from him likely won’t come until some point next season.
