UNC Football: Tar Heels flip Pitt commit
By Zack Pearson
The newest member to join the UNC Football program is a former Pitt commit that just flipped to the Tar Heels
The North Carolina Tar Heels football program continues to add recruits to their 2019 recruiting class after a big weekend on campus.
After losing a few recruits due to the firing of Larry Fedora and the hiring of Mack Brown, UNC got back on track with that recruiting weekend. The 2019 class is in better shape now than when Brown first took the job.
While the highlight of the weekend may have been landing four-star receiver Khafre Brown, the Tar Heels were able to flip another recruit. Three-star receiver Emery Simmons officially flipped his commitment to the Tar Heels once again after pledging for Penn State a few months back.
UNC did flip Simmons from Indiana last year before he went back to the Big Ten and to Penn State.
But Simmons didn’t end up being the only recruit that flipped.
On Tuesday, safety Khadry Jackson officially announced he is verbally committing to UNC and flipping from Pitt. The three-star safety out of Windermere, Florida is ranked as the No. 67 player at his position and gave UNC their 14th recruit in the 2019 class.
Jackson took his visit to UNC over the weekend and made up his mind that Chapel Hill was where he wanted to be when he attends college. It’s a big pickup for Brown and his staff as they not only land the safety but pry him away from an ACC school.
With the Early Signing Day period coming up in just over a week, UNC will have the chance to add to its class.
Four-star quarterback Sam Howell has emerged as a big UNC target despite being verbally committed to Florida State since April. If Brown can flip Howell, this 2019 recruiting class gets even better.
