The UNC Basketball team climbs up two spots in the latest AP Top 25 rankings that were released on Monday afternoon

Coming off their disappointing loss to the Michigan Wolverines, the North Carolina Tar Heels dropped out of the top 10 in last week’s Associated Press Top 25. This week, the Tar Heels did move up in the poll but they are still outside of the top 10.

After a win over UNC-Wilmington in their lone game last week, the Tar Heels have moved up two spots in the AP Top 25.

UNC checks in at No. 12 in the latest poll, just outside of the top 10 but they will have the chance to improve that ranking on Saturday.

With Gonzaga’s loss to Tennessee on Sunday, the Bulldogs fell from No. 1 to No. 4 in the polls setting up a showdown with UNC on Saturday night in Chapel Hill. The home game will be the next tough non-conference test for UNC and will be followed by a game in Chicago against Kentucky.

Kansas is the new No. 1 team in the poll after Gonzaga lost, moving up from No. 2 to No. 1 this week. Duke followed suite moving up to No. 2 and Tennessee jumped five spots from No. 7 to No. 3 after beating Gonzaga.

The Bulldogs at No. 4 and Michigan at No. 5 round out the top 5.

The ACC was well-represented in the Top 10 as Virginia fell from No. 4 to No. 6 and Florida State climbed one spot up from No. 11 to No. 10 in the poll.

In all, the ACC had six teams in the rankings as Virginia Tech checked in at No. 13 and Syracuse joined the poll at No. 25.

The Tar Heels’ next two opponents will be ranked as of now beginning with Saturday’s game against No. 4 Gonzaga. On December 22nd they will take on Kentucky at the United Center in Chicago as part of the CBS Sports Classic.
