UNC Football: Recruits head to Chapel Hill for big recruiting weekend
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Football program is hosting a big recruiting weekend with several recruits on campus for visits.
New University of North Carolina head coach Mack Brown is hosting his first big recruiting weekend in Chapel Hill beginning on Friday.
Since Brown has taken over as head coach of the Tar Heels, the program has lost a few commits in their 2019 class. But the head coach has been on the recruiting trail, making stops over the past week to visit recruits that have offered a verbal to UNC as well as targets ahead of the Early Signing Period coming up.
Now Brown will have the chance to welcome in some big football recruits this weekend for the first time.
Several recruits are expected to be on campus this weekend as the Tar Heels hope to win some over and add to their 2019 class.
Some of the recruits that are already in Chapel Hill include three-star defensive end Kristian Varner, three-star outside linebacker Octavius Brothers, and kicker Ben Kiernan. All have posted on Twitter that they are either on their way or already in Chapel Hill for the weekend.
A few other recruits including current UNC verbals are also expected for the trip.
Varner currently has offers from Vanderbilt, Louisville, North Carolina, Buffalo, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and TCU among others. There’s only one Crystal Ball prediction on 247 Sports for him and that belongs to Louisville.
Brothers is one of the top remaining UNC targets on their board and has offers from Syracuse, Auburn, UCF, North Carolina, N.C. State and Ole Miss among others.
There will be more names emerging as the weekend goes on and expect some big names to pop up as surprises. One of those surprises could be former UNC wide receiver commit Emery Simmons who currently is committed to Penn State.
The Tar Heels were able to flip him from Indiana before he flipped again to Penn State. There are some rumblings that he would be on campus this weekend and a potential flip could happen.
We will continue to update this article with names of recruits on campus for the weekend as we receive them.
