Keion Brooks appears to be ready to make his decision on what college he will attend next year and an announcement could come soon

When five-star center Vernon Carey Jr. announced he was attending Duke, it took another target off the University of North Carolina’s recruiting list.

Head coach Roy Williams and his staff got off to a good start with commitments from five-star center Armando Bacot and three-star point guard Jeremiah Francis. But since the verbal from Bacot in August, UNC has struck out on a few top recruits on their list.

Going into 2019, it’s clear that wing will be a top priority for the Tar Heels as they will lose Kenny Williams and Cam Johnson to graduation. Nassir Little is expected to leave to go to the NBA Draft and is considered a lottery pick.

If freshman Coby White also decides to leave, the need gets a little bigger.

There are still a few targets left on Williams’ recruiting board including at the wing position in the 2019 class. One of those recruits is also getting closer to making a decision.

Five-star wing Keion Brooks out of Indiana appears to be ready to announce his college decision within the next month. The news comes just after the Indiana Hoosiers landed five-star Trayce Jackson-Davis earlier this week.

“Within the next month or so,” he said via the Indy Star this week, “I could see myself making a decision.”

Brooks is one of the top remaining targets left on UNC’s list and would fill that void on the wing for the Tar Heels. He took his official visit last month with Carey Jr. and had positive things to say about the program.

Pulling Brooks out of the state of Indiana will be tough, however. Among his finalists are Indiana, Michigan State, Kentucky, UCLA and Purdue along with UNC.

The feeling is that Brooks does stay close to home and either picks Indiana, Michigan State or Kentucky. But don’t count UNC out just yet as anything can happen between now and his decision date.
