The UNC Basketball program dropped three spots in the latest AP Top 25 Poll that was released on Monday afternoon

The North Carolina Tar Heels were in action just once last week but it wasn’t an easy matchup.

UNC hit the road to take on then No. 7 Michigan in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday night and things didn’t go so well. After the Tar Heels jumped out to an early lead, Michigan went on a big run to take control and eventually put it away in the second half.

The loss was the second of the season for the Tar Heels and dropped them down in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll that was released on Monday.

The Tar Heels fell three spots from No. 11 to No. 14 in the poll, the lowest ranking since they were No. 19 back in January.

The major change at the top came with the Wolverines who climbed two spots from No. 7 to No. 5, their first Top 5 ranking this season. They are behind No.1 Gonzaga, No. 2 Kansas, No. 3 Duke and No. 4 Virginia.

With Michigan’s jump, Nevada and Tennessee both fell one spot each despite not losing. Auburn stayed put at No. 8 with Kentucky moving to No. 9 and Michigan State falling to No. 10.

The Atlantic Coast Conference has a total of five teams ranked in this week’s poll. Joining Duke, Virginia and North Carolina is No. 11 Florida State and No. 15 Virginia Tech.

Wisconsin was the biggest mover in the poll climbing 10 spots from No. 22 to No. 12 and Furman joined the poll at No. 25 with their 8-0 record this season. They beat Villanova on the road earlier in the season, giving them a Top 25 win already.

The Tar Heels return to action this week hosting UNC-Wilmington on Wednesday. It will be their only game of the week before hosting No. 1 Gonzaga on December 15th.
