Mack Brown was officially introduced on Tuesday afternoon in Chapel Hill as the head coach returns for his second stint with the football program.

The (second) Mack Brown era at North Carolina is officially here.

On Tuesday, the University held a press conference to introduce Brown as the next head coach for the football program, officially beginning his second stint in Chapel Hill. The program decided to act fast and make a hire after firing former head coach Larry Fedora on Sunday.

Tuesday’s press conference was packed with Ram’s Club members, former players, current players, alumni, administrators and even other UNC athletics coaches such as Roy Williams and Sylvia Hatchell. The event was truly a big one for the Athletic Department in a time where the football program needs a resurgence.

Brown answered several questions about the state of the program, including his goals for what he expects right away.

The head coach did mention that he was set to meet the players for the first time on Tuesday night and get a feel for the program.

Brown hasn’t been a head coach since being fired from Texas in 2013 but he’s up for the tough challenge of rebuilding this program.

“There is no question that I like a challenge. It energizes you. It keeps you up at night for a positive thing. And I love hiring staffs and putting things together,” Brown said via Inside Carolina.

The challenge Brown faces is turning around a program that lost 9 games in each of their previous two seasons. UNC has struggled to beat both Duke and NC State in the past three years, dropping six-straight against the two opponents.

Despite two decommitments from the 2019 recruiting class, which now stands at 11, Brown plans on winning right away.

“We’re planning on winning next year,” Brown said via ESPN. “You can’t say you’re going to rebuild and play all young guys. We want to win next year. We want to win now. That’s very, very important to us.”

He hasn’t had a chance to form his staff or even dip into recruiting, but it’s something that’s going to take some time over the coming days.

Before Brown gets started on all of that, he’s soaking up the moment and the warm return home to Chapel Hill.

Even with the struggles of the program over the recent years, it was a positive day in Chapel Hill and one that we hope to look back on years from now as a turning point for the program.
