Point guard Seventh Woods will be available for the Tar Heels in Wednesday’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge game in Michigan.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will get a key rotation player back when they head on the road for their latest test.

Ahead of Wednesday’s matchup with No. 7 Michigan on the road, UNC head coach Roy Williams revealed that point guard Seventh Woods has been cleared for contact. Woods is eligible to return to the court after missing the two games at the Las Vegas Invitational last week due to a concussion.

Although freshman Coby White won the starting point guard job and has elevated his play, Woods has been a positive for the Tar Heels this season.

In five games this season off the bench Woods has averaged 2.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. He’s been a spark for the second unit and has been able to give White some rest while he’s in the game.

The Tar Heels really missed Woods’ presence in the two-game tournament last week, especially in the loss to Texas. White had a big game but had to play a season-high 30 minutes for the Tar Heels and finished with 33 points.

There really is no backup point guard on this roster when Woods is out although freshman Rechon “Leaky” Black can play the position if needed.

UNC now faces a big road test after being ranked No. 11 in the country following a 2-1 week during the Holiday. Playing at Michigan is no easy task and the Wolverines will enter Wednesday’s game against the Tar Heels at 6-0.

If UNC wants to pull off the road win, they will need to play an all-around great game including getting more from that second unit.

Woods’ minutes and production is something to monitor moving forward as UNC hopes he can continue to be a key part of the rotation.
