Five-star shooting guard Anthony Edwards will reclassify to 2019 and the North Carolina Tar Heels are one of five schools showing significant interest

The recruitment for five-star shooting guard Anthony Edwards is going to heat up in a big way in the coming months.

On Tuesday, 247 Sports recruiting analyst Evan Daniels reported that Edwards will reclassify from 2020 to 2019 and becomes the No. 1 overall player in his new class.

“Just thinking and talking about it, I decided to reclassify to 2019,” Edwards told 247Sports on Tuesday morning. “I thought it was better for me and my family.”

The Atlanta, Georgia native climbed the 2020 rankings this past year, all the way to No. 2 as he’s becoming one of the best scorers in the country. But now with his classification to 2019, Edwards could change the recruiting landscape for several programs including the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Edwards told Daniels that there are five schools prioritizing him right now with all five offering him a scholarship. Florida State, Kentucky, UNC, Michigan State and Georgia have all shown significant interest in the recruit.

He hasn’t taken an official visit yet but so far he says he’s going to take one to Florida State and Michigan State, then decide on the other three. With UNC showing Edwards they have a lot of interest, he likely will take a visit to Chapel Hill.

Along with revealing those five schools, Edwards also commented on them and had this to say about UNC:

"“I talk to him all the time. They say come here and we are going to get you in the league and he said they are going to get me in the best shape.. He always say he’s a winning and he coached the great ever and he didn’t coach him for no reason.”"

This news is significant for UNC’s 2019 class as they have been searching for a wing to add to it after missing out on Tre Mann, Boogie Ellis and Josh Green. They are still in the running for Cole Anthony and Zeke Nnaji but landing Edwards would put their class over the top.

Florida State currently leads the Crystal Ball predictor for Edwards but both UNC and Kentucky are thought to be serious contenders.

With the move into 2019 don’t be shocked if both Duke and Kansas get in on the recruitment as well. Duke has shown interest in Edwards and could be a team that sneaks in late.

Next. Are the Tar Heels picking up momentum for Zeke Nnaji?. dark
