The UNC Football program picked up their second victory of the 2018 season by beating Western Carolina at home on Saturday

While the North Carolina Tar Heels football program is having a very disappointing season, Saturday provided a bright spot for the team.

The Tar Heels snapped a 6-game losing streak with their 49-26 win over Western Carolina on Saturday, giving UNC their second win of the season and some momentum going into the season finale against N.C. State.

UNC’s offense was powered by a mix of the run game and pass game as they racked up 296 yards on the ground and 358 yards through the air. Seven different players had a rushing attempt in the game, led by freshman Javonte Williams who had 93 yards on 17 carries and 3 touchdowns.

Backup quarterback Manny Miles even got in the action, completing two of his four passing attempts including a 38-yard touchdown pass to Jake Bargas as the clock expired in the first half.

It was the first touchdown pass in Miles’ career at UNC and it came with his father, Les, in attendance.

The Catamounts jumped out to a 7-0 lead with a Tyrie Adams 1-yard run in the first quarter.  But after that, it was all Tar Heels.

UNC scored 21-unanswered points in the first half beginning with a Thomas Jackson 17-yard pass from Elliott, then a Williams 1-yard run and finally a Jordon Brown 22-yard run gave them the 21-7 lead.

Western Carolina would kick three field goals in the first half and the Tar Heels added two more touchdowns to take a 35-16 lead at the break.

The Catamounts opened the second-half scoring with a 26-yard field goal to trim the lead to 35-19 before Williams had two touchdown runs of two yards in the third quarter to push the lead to 49-19.

It was a career day for Williams who got the bulk of the carries, especially in the second half with Michael Carter Jr. being sidelined.
