UNC Basketball: Analyst updates where Tar Heels stand with key recruits
By Zack Pearson
Where do things stand with the UNC Basketball program and some key 2019 recruiting targets? Well, an analyst broke down the latest with the Tar Heels.
On Wednesday, the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program received their official letters of intent from two prospects as the early signing period officially arrived.
Five-star center Armando Bacot and four-star point guard Jeremiah Francis both signed their letters, committing to UNC as part of the 2019 class. The duo got UNC off to a great start in that 2019 class but head coach Roy Williams hopes his class isn’t finished.
With the Tar Heels wrapping up official visits with recruits, they do have an official with a new prospect that has emerged on their board. Zeke Nnaji is set to unofficially visit UNC this weekend as the Tar Heels have jumped in late on his recruitment.
Williams has made that late push for Nnaji and it could turn out to be something special for the program.
Along with Nnaji, UNC’s top target is combo guard Cole Anthony. The five-star player is among the best in the 2019 class and would be a huge get for Williams and the Tar Heels. He recently cut his list to six schools and has already taken an official and unofficial visit to the Tar Heels.
With the early signing day finally here, Scout recruiting analyst Evan Daniels published his #AskEvan mailbag and was asked about some UNC recruiting news. The topics of Nnaji, Anthony and five-star wing Keion Brooks who has also taken an official to UNC came up.
Here’s some of what Daniels had to say:
"The Heels certainly have a chance with these three prospects. I think they a very good shot with Cole Anthony and Zeke Nnaji. If Anthony’s recruitment ended today (it won’t end for a while), I would think UNC is the strong favorite to land him. In terms of Nnaji, I find it hard to believe he’s adding in a late unofficial visit to UNC late and not strongly thinking about going there."

The little snippet of Anthony is certainly good news for the Tar Heels as Williams would love to add another player on the wing. The combo guard is the ideal fit as he’s a pure scorer and considered one of the best in this class.
Anthony did say he would sign in the Spring, so a decision from the guard will likely come sometime between this winter and Spring.
Nnaji is set to make his decision the week after his trip to UNC and it’s really going to take a strong visit from the Tar Heels to land him. But don’t count UNC out of it just yet.
