UNC Basketball: 5 things we learned from the Tar Heels’ win over Wofford
4. Cameron Johnson needs to take more shots
Cameron Johnson might be North Carolina’s best option from three-point range, but Luke Maye and Kenny Williams are right on his heels.
Despite a rough season from beyond the arc a year ago, Johnson still shot 34 percent from downtown and made the fourth-most three-pointers on the team. And that was after missing the first 11 games of the season due to a knee injury. He hit 47 in total, and tallied six games with three or more three-pointers.
On Tuesday night, he was dominant from behind the three-point line, knocking down 5-of-7 three-pointers, including three in the second half. He looked as comfortable shooting the ball as we’ve seen him in a Carolina uniform. His 17 points were third-most among UNC players, and he also added a team-high eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in 32 minutes of play.
Given how efficiently he shot the ball, though, Johnson needs to be a little more selfish. He was the Tar Heels’ most efficient offensive player by a mile on Tuesday night, but took the fourth-fewest shots among UNC starters. Moving forward, Johnson needs to call his own number a little more frequently, particularly when the ball is falling early and often.
