UNC Basketball: 5 things we learned from the Tar Heels’ win over Wofford
The North Carolina Tar Heels have the pieces to make a deep NCAA tournament run in March
The North Carolina Tar Heels are just one game into the 2018-19 college basketball season, but UNC fans already have some things to digest after an exciting road victory over the pesky Wofford Terriers.
Despite their inability to put the game away early, and subsequently relinquishing a late second-half lead to the Terriers, the Tar Heels displayed a number of positives in their first 40 minutes of game action.
The loss of senior starters Joel Berry II and Theo Pinson will obviously be felt this season. The inclusion of talented newcomers like Nassir Little and Coby White, however, should help ease the sting of their absence. Also important is the year of experience that the North Carolina underclassmen have gained since last season.
More importantly, though, is the return of the Tar Heels’ senior class that’s led by preseason All-American Luke Maye. He, along with three-point threats Kenny Williams and Cameron Johnson, gives North Carolina an opportunity to compete not only in the ACC, but from a national standpoint, too.
Look for the Tar Heels to be a well-rounded, NCAA Tournament-ready team by the time Atlantic Coast Conference play ends in early March.
