The UNC Basketball program made the cut in the top six for a 2019 wing that is currently at the IMG Academy.

University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams may have a new target on his 2019 recruiting board.

Just last week, 2019 four-star wing Terrence Shannon Jr. provided an update to his recruitment by releasing his new top six list of schools. While Shannon Jr. included DePaul, Florida State and Illinois, three schools that have recruited him hard, he added three new schools.

One of those three schools were the Tar Heels, which may have come as a surprise to fans of the program. There really hasn’t been much with UNC’s connection to Shannon Jr. other than they have seen him at IMG Academy while watching 2019 verbal commitment Armando Bacot.

But with the Tar Heels missing out on Josh Green and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Williams might be seeking to add some help on the wing and wants to get in late on Shannon Jr.’s recruitment.

Joining UNC as the other two teams are Texas Tech and Georgetown.

The wing is a Chicago native that attended Lincoln Park High School and played on the AAU Circuit with the famed Mac Irvin Fire team. He committed to DePaul back in August and then decided to reopen his recruitment just a few days later and has now added three new teams.

He is currently at the IMG Academy after reclassifying to the 2019 class.

Shannon Jr. ranks as the No. 81 player in the 2019 class and is the No. 23 small forward in this class. As of now, Illinois could be considered the favorites but outside of this update there hasn’t been much movement of late in his recruitment.

We don’t know exactly where the Tar Heels stand with Shannon Jr. and as of now, an official visit date hasn’t been set.

But making his top 6 does give the Tar Heels some hope they can land this four-star player, for now.
