A recruiting analyst doesn’t have good news for the UNC Basketball program in regards to a 2019 point guard

Class of 2019 point guard Boogie Ellis is one of the top targets remaining on University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams recruiting board.

After missing out on Josh Green, Williams would love to add at least one more guard to his 2019 class in the form of Ellis or five-star Cole Anthony. The ideal class is to have both players signed.

The West Coast guard Ellis was offered by UNC in September and since then, Williams has done a good job of staying in contact with him. The head coach has visited Ellis a few times and the guard was even on UNC’s campus for an official visit just a few weeks back.

UNC led the 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictor and appeared to be the favorites to land the point guard going into this week. But ahead of Ellis’ visit to Duke, which began on Thursday, some predictions started flowing in for the Blue Devils.

As of Friday, Duke leads the Crystal Ball at 62 percent compared to the 25 for the Tar Heels, a big swing of momentum. The latest predictions have come from 247 Sports recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer and from Andrew Slater, who writes for the Duke site on 247.

While Ellis is on campus in Durham, a recent article by a top recruiting analyst may have something to do with the picks.

Scout & 247 Sports analyst Evan Daniels wrote in his weekly mailbag that he thinks two schools are in the best shape with Ellis, listing Duke and Memphis:

"I think Duke’s best chance is with 2019 guard Boogie Ellis. The latest I’ve heard is Duke and Memphis are in the best shape with Ellis and he visits the Blue Devils this weekend."

That’s some big news from a guy that usually has good information.

If Daniels is right and Duke impresses Ellis enough this weekend, the guard could make up his mind in time for the early signing period.  Losing Ellis would certainly hurt the Tar Heels as it appeared that they were the favorites right when they got into the mix.

Ellis hasn’t indicated anything about an announcement but with his recruitment picking up some steam, things are progressing and getting real interesting.
