UNC Basketball head coach Roy Williams knows just how tough the Tar Heels’ 2018-19 schedule is

With just under two weeks until the start of the 2018-19 college basketball season, the North Carolina Tar Heels will begin their non-conference schedule with a road game at Wofford to open the year.

UNC will be on the road against Wofford and Elon to open the season before returning home to host Stanford in the home opener. Following that, UNC will host Tennessee Tech and Saint Francis for three straight home games.

The schedule may not seem tough with those five games but after that, things get a lot tougher for the Tar Heels.

North Carolina plays one of the toughest schedules overall in all of college basketball this season including the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule which features Duke twice. In non conference play, UNC will take on Texas, Michigan State/UCLA, Michigan, Gonzaga and Kentucky before opening up ACC play.

Of those teams they play in non-conference, five are currently ranked in the first AP Top 25 poll for the season. They also have Duke, Virginia, Florida State, Syracuse and Clemson who are also ranked on their ACC schedule.

This could be the last year we could see some of these big non-conference matchups involving UNC due to the ACC moving to a 20-game schedule. But as for this year’s schedule, Williams noted it may just be the toughest UNC has played during his time with the program.

Williams also went on to take a shot at the doubters of the ACC who year after year say the conference is overrated.

At ACC media day, Williams noted that everyone thinks the ACC is overrated but no one wants to play the ACC schedule.

The head coach does have a point. The ACC is usually one of if not the best conferences in all of college basketball each year and the schedule isn’t easy.

There’s no such thing as a gimme in the ACC, especially on the road.

With media days now over, Williams and his team now put their primary focus on a Wofford team that came into Chapel Hill last season and beat the Tar Heels. The season opener is set for Nov. 6 and you better believe UNC will have some revenge on its mind.
