A big UNC Basketball recruiting target has cut the Tar Heels from his list on Thursday.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are officially out of the running for recruit Jeremiah Robinson-Earl.

On Thursday, the five-star forward officially eliminated the Tar Heels and cut his list down to two schools, leaving Kansas and Villanova as the finalists.

Rivals reporter Eric Bossi first reported the news late Wednesday night and Robinson-Earl’s mother, Katie Robinson, confirmed the report to the Kansas City Star on Thursday morning.

Robinson-Earl eliminated UNC, Notre Dame and Arizona from his list of five finalists after taking all of his official visits. He was on campus in September with wing Josh Green for an official visit to UNC and now the Tar Heels have lost out on both IMG Academy recruits.

The recruit is ranked No. 18 on the 247 Sports Composite rankings for the 2019 class and the Kansas Jayhawks have the the current edge on the site’s Crystal Ball predictor.

Robinson-Earl played his first three seasons of high school basketball at Bishop Miege in Kansas before transferring to IMG Academy in Florida. He also played on the KC Run GMC AAU program, giving him strong ties to the state.

Early in his recruitment it was thought that the Jayhawks were the favorites and it would be hard for a program to pull him out of the state. Once UNC got involved, many believed they could be the program to do it.

But now it’s up to Villanova to land the big man.

For UNC, it’s another disappointing result in their 2019 recruiting class after landing point guard Jeremiah Francis and five-star center Armando Bacot. Since then they have missed out on both Green and Robinson-Earl.

UNC is still pursuing guards Boogie Ellis and Cole Anthony as well as five-star big man Matthew Hurt.

There’s still hope for a big 2019 class but it certainly took a hit by missing out on this five-star prospect.
