University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams visited a 2019 point guard target this past week on the West Coast.

The North Carolina Tar Heels got some bad news on Wednesday when class of 2019 guard Josh Green picked Arizona over the Tar Heels, ending his recruitment. The five-star wing was a high priority for head coach Roy Williams and UNC was once considered the favorites to land the IMG Academy product.

Losing out on Green doesn’t mean the Tar Heels still can’t have a good 2019 class that already includes point guard Jeremiah Francis and five-star center Armando Bacot.

Williams still has a few other guards on his targets list and the hope is to snag one of if not both Cole Anthony and Boogie Ellis. The five-star guard Anthony just took his official visit to UNC last weekend, doing so with his best friend Bacot also on his visit.

As of now, it appears that the Tar Heels could be the favorites to land the combo guard and have picked up a few Crystal Ball predictions recently. Anthony is the top recruit left on Williams’ targets list and would be a huge addition to the 2019 class.

Ellis just recently picked up an offer from UNC last month, as they seek to add another guard to the class. The San Diego product is a top 40 player in the 2019 class and would give the Tar Heels another point guard in their class.  Ellis will be in Chapel Hill for Late Night With Roy next weekend as he’s scheduled his official visit for October 12-13.

But before that, Williams made sure to make a trip to visit Ellis on Tuesday:

Ellis currently holds from 23 programs including UNC, Duke, Oregon, Arizona, Georgia Tech, USC, Gonzaga and Oklahoma among others. Just two weeks after landing an offer from UNC, the Blue Devils offered Ellis as they begin to show significant interest.

Williams was able to watch Ellis at the Nike Peach Jam over the Summer and was impressed with the point guard’s play.

As of now, USC currently holds the edge in the 247 Sports Crystal Ball at 75% but UNC is starting to gain some traction and sits at 25%.

A good visit next weekend could go a long way for UNC’s chances in Ellis’ recruitment.
