The UNC Football program will host Virginia Tech under the lights in primetime a week from Saturday in Chapel Hill

The 2018 college football season hasn’t started the way the North Carolina Tar Heels program had hoped it would as they sit at 1-3 through five weeks going into their bye.

The latest loss came at the hands of nationally ranked Miami on Thursday as the Tar Heels were blown out on the road to drop to 1-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. There are a lot of question marks surrounding the program right now including the status of head coach Larry Fedora.

It’s been another disappointing start in what should be a season the Tar Heels take a step forward and reach a bowl game. As of now, UNC would need to go on a serious run to have a shot at a bowl game but their schedule doesn’t get much easier.

After the bye, the Tar Heels will host the Virginia Tech Hokies in their third ACC game of the season on October 13th. The Hokies just had a big win over previously ranked Duke on the road this past Saturday.

On Monday, the Tar Heels announced that the Week 7 game will be a primetime game in Chapel Hill under the lights:

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. EST on that Saturday and the game will be broadcasted on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. Our bet is that it won’t be on the main ESPN channel seeing how the Tar Heels have struggled this season.

It’s rare to get a night game in Chapel Hill on a Saturday and even rarer to see it vs. an opponent who could be ranked. The Hokies will host No. 6 Notre Dame this weekend and a win could see them move up into the Top 15 in the polls.

A close loss could have them ranked still, but either way it’s a big game for the Tar Heels.

If Fedora wants to turn this thing around and have a shot at a bowl game, a win over the Hokies is much-needed. The Tar Heels have a total of 6 ACC games left on the schedule and need to start stacking some wins.
