UNC Basketball: Armando Bacot hoping to help bring recruits to Chapel Hill
By Zack Pearson
UNC Basketball verbal commit Armando Bacot is hoping to bring two teammates with him to Chapel Hill in the 2019 recruiting class.
Class of 2019 center Armando Bacot offered his verbal commitment to the North Carolina Tar Heels back in August as he became the first five-star big man since Tony Bradley to do so.
With the addition of Bacot, UNC is off to a fast start in the 2019 class. They have verbals from both Bacot and point guard Jeremiah Francis to begin the class but head coach Roy Williams is hoping to add more.
The Tar Heels still have several big targets on their recruiting board and most have set up official visits to Chapel Hill. But Williams may have some help in recruiting players.
Two of UNC’s targets are forwards Josh Green and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and both are top 20 players in the 2019 class. Green and Robinson-Earl are already teammates down at IMG Academy in Florida and both have a connection to the Tar Heels.
Along with Green and Robinson-Earl, IMG Academy is also home to Bacot who transferred to the program out of Virginia for his senior year.
The trio will be teammates for their final year of High School and Bacot has already begun the recruiting phase of his teammates. The five-star center took to social media to show his efforts and posted a photo of a mock cover of SLAM Magazine showing Bacot, Robinson-Earl and Green on it, all in UNC jerseys with the title “IMG’s BIG 3”.
Bacot shared the photo, which can be seen here via Inside Carolina’s Ross Martin, on social media earlier in the week. The thought is that the UNC basketball program made the cover for the trio in hopes of landing at three at UNC.
With Bacot committed, Green and Robinson-Earl are in the process of taking their official visits this Fall.
The duo are both taking a visit to Chapel Hill this weekend, arriving on Friday, September 21 and will be on campus for the UNC Football program’s home opener against Pitt. It’s unknown at the moment who will host both recruits but having them there this weekend will be huge.
Williams would love to add at least one more post player and wing to his class which is already ranked in the Top 10. Both Green and Robinson-Earl would fit that mold.
