Tar Heels Basketball: Boogie Ellis calls UNC his ‘dream school’

Class of 2019 point guard Boogie Ellis talks about his recruitment so far and why the University of North Carolina is a “dream school” for him

Point guard Boogie Ellis was the latest recruit in the 2019 class to receive an official offer from the University of North Carolina. Shortly after that, Ellis planned an official visit to Chapel Hill as he hopes to learn more about the university and basketball program.

Despite having Jeremiah Francis verbally committed, Roy Williams hasn’t stopped his pursuit of trying to land a point guard for this 2019 class.

Ellis is from San Diego and will play his senior year at Mission Bay High School and will likely make a decision after the early signing period in November. Right now, many think that Ellis will stay on the West Coast as programs like Arizona, Southern California, San Diego State and Oregon are all pursuing the point guard.

But on Thursday, Ellis talked about his recruitment to Prep Circuit and there’s some good news for the Tar Heels.

Ellis broke down his current list, saying he’s down to eight schools: Arizona, UNC, Memphis, San Diego State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Georgia Tech and USC in no particular order. He just completed his first visit to USC and has visits planned to UNC, Arizona and Georgia Tech in the future. The fifth team to get the final visit essentially makes his final cut and trims his list down.

The point guard went on to talk about his recruitment, breaking down all of the big schools in the process.  In doing so, Ellis revealed something special about UNC.

“North Carolina has always been a dream school for me since I was little,” said Ellis via Prep Circuit.com. “My grandparents and some of my family went there, so when I got that offer it was a great feeling. I’m just trying to check it out and see what it’s like. Like the rest of the schools I am visiting, I am going to see if it’s the best fit for me.”

Not only does Ellis reveal that UNC is a dream school for him but he also notes that his grandparents and other family members also attended the university.

With UNC getting a visit and this latest comment, you have to feel good about the Tar Heels’ chances right now.

Obviously nothing is a given in a recruitment but we fully expect UNC to be in the running until the end in this recruitment.

Ellis will take his visit to Chapel Hill on the Weekend of October 12th and will be in attendance for the annual Late Night With Roy event that is taking place on that Friday.
