The lone recruit in UNC’s 2020 basketball recruiting class, Day’Ron Sharpe, is starting to climb the recruiting rankings

While most of the talk regarding the University of North Carolina basketball team has been on the 2019 recruiting class, the 2020 class is starting to make some headlines.

Back in June Roy Williams and his staff received their first verbal for the 2020 class when center Day’Ron Sharpe announced his decision on Father’s Day while visiting campus. Sharpe became a very important recruit for Williams, giving him a early post player in the class.

At the time of his verbal, Sharpe was just really starting to get noticed. The North Carolina product has since received praise during the Summer AAU sessions and now he’s climbing the recruiting rankings.

Earlier this week Rivals updated its 2020 class rankings and the 6-foot-8 Sharpe jumped 56 spots from No. 90 to No. 34 in the rankings. The 56 spots are the highest jump for any recruit in the class.

Sharpe is also the second-highest recruit in the rankings that is currently verbally committed to a program joining No. 11 Kyree Walker who gave his verbal to Arizona State.

Being No. 34 in the rankings, Sharpe is a four-star recruit and one of the top centers overall in this 2020 class. Since his verbal, the center has really turned it on and started to impress scouts at various tournaments.

While he was just a fringe top 100 class, he’s begun his ascend to the top of the rankings and right now there’s no telling where he’s going to end up. If Sharpe continues this strong play into his junior year at South Central High School in Winterville, we could see him reach the top 20 in the next update.

For now, Sharpe is a great start to the class for Williams who is also showing interest in other 2020 prospects. If Williams can somehow grab a few more verbals, the 2020 chance has the chance to be special and that is with the potential of the 2019 class factoring in.
