UNC Basketball: Roy Williams to meet with 5-star forward for in-home visit
By Zack Pearson
Roy Williams is set to have a big in-home visit with a five-star power forward next week
We are just weeks until the High School and college basketball seasons start, which means the recruitment news should start picking up again.
University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams is off to a good start on his 2019 class with the verbal commitment from five-star center Armando Bacot and four-star point guard Jeremiah Francis. Williams is not done with his class as he’s trying to add at least one more guard and another wing player to round it off.
One of Williams’ targets, Matthew Hurt, is entering his senior year at John Marshall Senior in Rochester, Minnesota and he’s drawn the attention of several big programs. The five-star power forward is ranked No. 6 in the 247 Sports composite rankings and has a total of 18 offers.
Early in his recruitment, Hurt was pursued heavily by Kansas, Minnesota and North Carolina. But since then, Duke, Kentucky, Arizona, Louisville and other schools have entered the mix.
Hurt hasn’t planned any official visits just yet but with the new contact period opening this Sunday, the recruit is set to host several coaches for in-home visits.
That includes Williams.
The UNC head coach is planning on visiting Hurt in his Rochester home next week and has the visit lined up for next week according to the Star Tribune. It’s unknown the exact date that Williams is scheduled to meet with
Hurt will have three big visits on the first day of the open contact period with Bill Self, John Calipari and Coach K all scheduled to visit on Sept. 9. Following that, Minnesota’s Rick Pitino will be in on Sept. 10th and then Penny Hardaway on Sept. 12th.
The five-star prospect hasn’t trimmed his list down at all but we should expect something in the coming weeks. With the Summer sessions over and High School hoops ready to get going, things should progress in Hurt’s recruitment.
