Vernon Carey Jr. will take his official visits this Fall and he has a schedule set

Class of 2019 power forward Vernon Carey Jr. is starting to move forward with his recruitment, taking the next step by setting his official visits.

The five-star Florida native announced his top five back in May listing the North Carolina Tar Heels, Duke Blue Devils, Miami Hurricanes, Michigan State Spartans and Kentucky Wildcats. Now Carey Jr. is ready to take his official visits.

Scout’s Evan Daniels reported that Carey Jr. is set to take four official visits this Fall, beginning with Kentucky on October 12th for Big Blue Madness. He will follow that up with a visit to Duke on Oct. 19 for the program’s Countdown to Craziness.

In-state Miami will get the third visit on October 25th and UNC will get the final visit, for now, hosting Carey Jr. on the weekend of November 2nd.

Carey Jr. will be in Chapel Hill to visit UNC just four days before the Tar Heels head to Wofford to open up the season against the Terriers.

There’s the possibility that Carey Jr. could take another visit to the final school in his final five, Michigan State. He took an official visit back in February, a rare time to take an official. But thanks to new NCAA rules, Carey Jr. might be able to visit Michigan State once again. If that does happen, the Spartans could get that final visit after UNC.

Carey Jr. is currently the No. 2 recruit in the 247 Sports Composite Rankings and the Crystal Ball predictor is favoring Duke at 46 percent followed by Miami and Michigan State at 23 percent.

The Tar Heels will have some tough competition to land Carey Jr. but don’t count out Roy Williams yet. The head coach has watched Carey Jr. at the open evaluation period in July and has made him a priority according to the recruit.

As of now, there’s no timeline for a decision by Carey Jr. but it’s hard to see him deciding before the early signing period in November.

If UNC wants to land another big man in this class, they will have to have a great official visit to start swaying things.
