UNC Basketball: The next prospect to commit to North Carolina is…
Rivals’ Corey Evans believes this player will be next to commit to UNC
Just a week removed from receiving a commitment from five-star center Armando Bacot, Roy Williams and the North Carolina Tar Heels continue their full-court press on the class of 2019.
With scholarship offers abound and speculation to match it, the talk of the recruiting world, as it relates to North Carolina, is all about five-star prospect Josh Green. Sure, there is conversation surrounding Cole Anthony, Matthew Hurt, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Tre Mann — which is definitely warranted — and others, but it’s Green who looks to be the most likely to wind up in Chapel Hill next fall.
Rivals national recruiting expert Corey Evans recently updated Green’s recruitment, and noted that he sees the Tar Heels as the favorites at this point.
"“He grew up a Tar Heel fan in his native Australia, Evans said. “While defeating Arizona, Villanova, USC, UNLV and Kansas may be difficult, I believe Green ultimately ends up in Chapel Hill.”"
And Evans isn’t the only one who thinks so. The 247Sports Crystal Ball currently favors the Tar Heels in Green’s recruitment, and by a large margin. Five of six votes tallied on the site favor North Carolina, including 247Sports Director of Basketball Scouting, Jerry Meyer, who cast his vote on August 1st.
Evans also shared his thoughts on the state of Tre Mann’s recruitment, and where the Tar Heels stand with him.
"“North Carolina needs a lead guard badly. While Jeremiah Francis fits the bill, Mann is in another category. This is not a done deal for the Tar Heels as many believe. Tennessee and Florida sit in a great spot, too.”"
Evans is right, too. Francis does fit the bill on paper, but Mann is the more dynamic player. Mann has also been much more durable to this point, while Francis has struggled with injuries for the better part of two seasons. Because of that, a commitment from Mann looks much more like a necessity than a luxury now.
The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Green is currently ranked ninth in the 247Sports Composite. He’s a top-3 player at his position, and in the state of Florida. Mann, on the other hand, continues to rise in the rankings, and is sitting just outside the top-25. At 28th overall, Mann is the No. 3 point guard in the class, and the sixth-ranked prospect from the state of Florida.
