CBS Sports released their early bowl projections and the UNC Football program would have an interesting matchup against a Pac-12 team

The college football season is just over 10 days away for the North Carolina Tar Heels who will be in Cal to open up the year on September 1. Coming off a disappointing campaign in 2017, head coach Larry Fedora is hoping to turn things around quickly in Chapel Hill.

UNC’s schedule is tough to start, opening with two-straight road games against Cal and ECU before returning home to face a ranked UCF school that went unbeaten last season.

The main goal right now should be to make a bowl game after failing to do so in 2017 and as it stands, the Tar Heels will have some opportunities to knock off ranked opponents and make a case for a bowl game.

UNC currently has three ranked opponents on their schedule in UCF, Miami and Virginia Tech. That could change as the season goes on with other teams on their schedule being ranked or any of those three being unranked.

To qualify for a bowl game, UNC will need to win at least six games to be bowl eligible.

While we are still a long way from bowl games, CBS Sports writer Jerry Palm released his early bowl projections for the 2018 season. Palm predicted the matchups for each bowl game including the College Football Playoffs.

UNC wasn’t one of the four teams in CFP, to no ones surprise, but Palm did list the Tar Heels with an interesting bowl matchup.

He predicts UNC will face off against Oregon in the Hyundai Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. The Tar Heels played in the Sun Bowl two seasons ago, losing to Stanford in what would be Mitchell Trubisky’s final game.

It’s very early but a matchup with a program like Oregon who is also rebuilding is very intriguing.

These will continue to change as the season goes on but with the ACC tie-in to the Sun Bowl, UNC could find themselves playing there especially if they somehow can get to seven wins.
