Wendell Moore is believed to be a heavy lean to Duke but one recruiting analyst says his recruitment is far from over

Roy Williams and his North Carolina Tar Heels coaching staff showed heavy interest in 2019 wing Wendell Moore early on in his recruitment. Williams spent a lot of time watching Moore over the past 2 years in open evaluation periods in hopes of landing a commitment from the five-star prospect.

It appeared as if UNC had the lead and were the favorites to land Moore in 2017 and the rumor was that the Tar Heels were about to land a verbal from him. Then Mike Krzyzewski and Duke stepped in with an offer back in October 2017 and it may have changed his recruitment.

Moore grew up a Duke fan and considered the Blue Devils a dream offer. Once he received that offer, the Blue Devils reportedly took the lead in his recruitment. Some even went as far as saying they were a lock to land the in-state recruit.

The Blue Devils currently lead the 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictor for Moore at 88 percent with UNC coming in at 12 percent. Moore has scheduled al five official visits including one to UNC and one to Duke.

While Duke may seem to be the favorite to a lot of people, one recruiting analyst thinks Moore’s recruitment is far from over.

In his Tuesday Twitter piece, Rivals reporter Corey Evans was asked about Moore and the notion that everyone thinks he’s going to Duke. Evans did say he thinks Moore will pick Duke but he doesn’t think his recruitment is over just yet:

"However, North Carolina was viewed as the heavy favorite for Moore a year ago and there were even whispers that the Tar Heels were about to land his commitment before Duke offered. The same could have been said for Wake Forest as the Deacons have invested the most time and attention in recruiting the local prospect since his freshman year. Don’t discount NC State or South Carolina, either, as Kevin Keatts has already done wonders on the recruiting trail and Frank Martin has been no slouch in that regard. At the end of the day, do I believe that Moore ends up at Duke? I do, but this is far from a finished recruitment as all five finalists have a legitimate chance at his commitment."

Moore is scheduled to visit UNC at the annual “Late Night With Roy” event that will likely happen in October. Even with the Blue Devils as the favorites, this could be UNC’s last chance to make an impression and maybe convince him to pick the Tar Heels.

As for his decision, Moore could make one before the early signing period in November. He’s scheduled to visit N.C. State on Sept 1., South Carolina on Sept. 8, Duke on Sept. 22 and Wake Forest on Sept. 29.

dark. Next. A 2019 PG has scheduled his visit to UNC

That means UNC will get the last visit with Moore before he makes a decision on his recruitment.
