Class of 2019 recruiting target Will Baker dishes out on the Tar Heels and provides a small update on his recruitment

University of North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams has made it a priority to go after a big man in the 2019 recruiting class. Williams has targeted a few big men to hopefully add to his class including Texas standout Will Baker.

The five-star recruit is ranked as a Top 25 player in the 2019 class and the Tar Heels have had him on their radar for months now.

Williams has made several visits to see Baker play and is hoping to land the 7-foot center and make him a key piece for the Tar Heels. Baker would help compliment what is expected to be a strong UNC roster for the 2019-2020 campaign and could help the Tar Heels become dominant in the paint again.

While Baker’s recruitment has been quiet as of late, he spoke to Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans to provide an update as to where he’s at.

Baker told Evans he doesn’t have a list yet and revealed the schools that are really showing interest in him, including Louisville, Miami and Texas Tech who have recently offered him. The center even dished on some of those schools and revealed what he likes best.

Here’s what Baker said about UNC:

"“I think they are a big-man school. They could use me in the post as well as off of the screen and off of the pick and roll.”"

While Baker did say UNC is a “big-man” school, he spoke highly of both UCLA and Texas. The Bruins have really picked up steam in the race to land the recruit and it appears as if they might be the favorites.

Baker has taken just one official visit so far and it was to UCLA. A month ago, we wrote on something that could be a big factor in Baker’s decision which really favors the Bruins.

Early on in his recruitment, the Tar Heels appeared to be the favorites with Roy showing some significant interest. UNC hasn’t backed off and Williams even visited Baker before the quiet period in April.  He still remains a high priority for Williams in this class and anything could happen at this point.

We’d be shocked if Baker didn’t take an official visit to UNC at some point in the Fall with Late Night With Roy being the likely scenario unless an early verbal is announced.

Next. UNC will name court after Roy Williams. dark
