UNC Basketball: 2019 5-star recruit visiting Chapel Hill
By Zack Pearson
A five-star recruit is in Chapel Hill to visit and that’s very good news for the UNC Basketball program on Wednesday.
The North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program has a big visitor on campus Wednesday night.
According to Evan Daniels of Scout, five-star point guard Cole Anthony is visiting the campus in Chapel Hill on Wednesday evening, a big development for the Tar Heels.
Daniels is reporting that Anthony will be on campus Wednesday night as he in nearby Winston-Salem to take part in the Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp this week. It’s Anthony’s first visit to Chapel Hill during his recruitment and he also visited Wake Forest on Wednesday.
For the Tar Heels, this is big news.
Roy Williams and his staff have seemingly put the full court press on the five-star recruit over the past two months and appear to be one of the favorites in his recruitment. The Tar Heels have watched Anthony play in the evaluation periods numerous times, showing the interest.
Anthony is the No. 3 player overall in the 2019 recruiting class and the top player in the state of New York. He’s elevated his game over the year and is the top point guard in his class.
As the son of former NBA guard, Greg Anthony, Cole has been around the game all of his life and has put on a show during AAU circuits in 2018. He hasn’t revealed much on his recruitment and hasn’t pinpointed a favorite yet, giving all schools the chance to recruit him and show him what they can offer.
Just last month, Anthony shot down the notion that the Duke Blue Devils were the clear cut favorites to land him. A good sign for UNC fans as Williams has been everywhere watching him play.
Despite having Jeremiah Francis verbally committed in 2019, Williams would love to add more to the position. That’s where Anthony would fit in and likely come into UNC and start right away.
There’s no word if Anthony is visiting other schools other than UNC and Wake Forest on this trip but we have to imagine he could be in Durham eventually to check out Duke.
