UNC Basketball: Tar Heels hold third practice of the summer
North Carolina holds third practice of the summer
Less than three weeks from their trip to the Bahamas, the North Carolina Tar Heels held their third practice of the summer on Monday.
Highlights from the practice feature a dunk by freshman wing Nassir Little, a fast break score from junior point guard Seventh Woods and some nice shooting from rookie guard Rechon Black. Aside from the plays made on the court, it was nice just seeing the Tar Heels’ incoming freshman class wearing their Carolina blue in tandem.
The Tar Heels will boast three returning senior starters in Luke Maye, Kenny Williams and Cameron Johnson that immediately make them a force in the ACC. In addition to that, North Carolina has an emerging group of sophomore big men and, perhaps, the best freshman in the country in Nassir Little.

Maye averaged 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game as a junior, and was named third team All-American by the Associated Press. He was also voted the ACC’s Most Improved Player after averaging just 5.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore.
He recorded 17 double-doubles on the season, second only to Duke’s Marvin Bagley III, and scored 30 or more points on three occasions. He shot better than 43 percent from three-point range, and recorded nearly two-and-a-half assists per game.
Along with Maye are Williams and Johnson, the three of which represent the Tar Heels’ seniors and 60 percent of the team’s starting lineup. The trio combined to record better than 40 points, 18 rebounds and seven assists per game last season.
And 6-foot-7, 205-pound Nassir Little was as impressive as any high school player in the country last season, shooting up recruiting rankings and becoming a household name over the past several months. He’s already considered a consensus top-5 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, and likely to be an impact player for the Tar Heels from day one.
The Tar Heels will take part in the Bahamas Basketball Federation’s “Summer of Thunder” at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium on August 17th and 18th.
