Roy Williams extends his latest scholarship offer to 5-star shooting guard Josh Green

Roy Williams finally pulled the trigger on one of the top prospects in the 2019 class, extending a scholarship offer to five-star shooting guard Josh Green. TarHeelIllustrated was first to break the news.

The Australian-born Green is entering his senior season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and he’s one of the best overall players in class of 2019. According to Green’s high school coach, Sean McAloon, he had been hoping to hear from the Tar Heels at some point in his recruitment, stating that he “has always wanted to be on the UNC radar”.

McAloon, who coached former UNC standout Ed Davis at Benedictine, was actually the one who initially reached out to the North Carolina coaching staff to inform them of Green’s interest in the program.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound Green is a smart, athletic, talented scorer who has been getting a lot of attention from some of the biggest names in college basketball. He has a long list of scholarship offers including ones from Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford, Texas A&M, UCLA, Villanova and Virginia.

"“I really like Josh Green,” THI’s Clint Jackson said. “The Australian native plays an aggressive brand of basketball and really excels as a scorer who likes to attack. He’s well-built, at 6-5 and really shows out as a scorer. He’s also a nice mid-range shooter who can create space with his dribble.”"

Although we don’t currently have any indication what kind of timetable Green is working with, it’s safe to assume that there is still plenty of time left in his recruitment. There’s also little indication of which school he may presently be leaning toward, but he obviously has a great deal of interest in the Tar Heels.

"“He’s a guy who has made it clear that he likes UNC and his high school coach initiated the recruitment because he felt Green would be a good fit,” Jackson said."

There are just four predictions in the 247Sports Crystal Ball at this time, and they are evenly split between Arizona and North Carolina. Upon the announcement of Green’s scholarship offer from UNC, two recruiting insiders picked the Tar Heels as the favorite to land the talented shooter.

Green is the 11th-ranked player in the class of 2019 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s a top-3 shooting guard in the class, and the No. 2 prospect from the state of Florida.
