Wendell Moore

Roy Williams and the North Carolina men’s basketball program have been recruiting Cox Mill’s Wendell Moore for better than two years. Williams offered the five-star prospect a scholarship back in February of 2016, and has put a lot of time into his recruitment ever since.

Moore has made a handful of trips to Chapel Hill, and the UNC coaching staff has watched him play on a number of occasions. It was around the time of said interactions that Moore seemed to be favoring the Tar Heels. Early predictions from recruiting outlets had Moore picking North Carolina over the competition, but then Duke got involved and things quickly began to change.

Throughout his recruitment, Moore has shown great interest in remaining close to home for college. Although he’s entertained offers and visits from other schools, his focus has remained primarily on those within the state of North Carolina.

That focus was evident in May when he narrowed his list of schools to just five. The condensed list of schools unsurprisingly included Duke and North Carolina, along with North Carolina State, South Carolina and Wake Forest.

As he recently outlined to Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans, he’ll be taking official visits to each of his five finalists in the coming months. Moore also noted that he’s hoping to make a decision some time in November.

Although Moore has not indicated that there is a favorite in his recruitment, there’s a growing consensus that his recruitment is all but over. 88 percent of predictions in the 247Sports Crystal Ball have Moore choosing Duke over North Carolina, which garnered the remaining 12 percent of the votes.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Moore did include North Carolina in his final five, though, and that gives Williams and the Tar Heels a fighting chance.

Moore is the No. 21 prospect in the class of 2019 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the sixth-ranked small forward in the class, and the No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina.
