Class of 2019 recruiting target Armando Bacot has cut his list down to five schools, including the North Carolina Tar Heels

The North Carolina Tar Heels have made forward Armando Bacot a priority target in the 2019 recruiting class as of late. Head coach Roy Williams and his staff have been in contact with Bacot and have even watched him during the July evaluation periods.

It’s clear that Williams and his staff have put the full-court press on Bacot as of late and now it’s starting to pay off.

On Saturday, Bacot officially trimmed his list and updated his recruitment by naming his five finalists. He made the announcement via Twitter on Saturday afternoon and included the Tar Heels on his list.

Joining UNC in the top 5 are Duke, Oklahoma State, Georgia, and VCU.

The Virginia native was a heavy lean to Duke for the early part of his recruitment but since then, UNC has really picked up steam. After Bacot was on campus in Chapel Hill for a UNC-Duke game back in February, momentum began to shift in the Tar Heels’ direction.

The latest predictions in the 247 Sports Crystal Ball all favored the Tar Heels and now it appears as if Bacot will choose between UNC and Duke, giving us a good old fashioned Tobacco Road recruiting battle.

Bacot is currently ranked as the No. 26 player in the 2019 recruiting class but would be a big get for Williams and his staff. Not only would he help with depth in the post but Bacot could come in and be a star right away.

Williams and have staff continue to be in touch with the recruit who recently announced he was transferring to IMG Academy in Florida for his senior year. At this point, there’s no reason to believe that UNC is NOT the favorites to land the five-star recruit. But with time still left in his recruitment, anything can change.

Bacot plans on taking his official visits in the fall and could announce before the Early Signing Period in November.
