The UNC Basketball program has been added to this five-star point guard’s list after he reclassified to the 2019 class

University of North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams continues to actively recruit point guards in the 2019 recruiting class. We told you on Wednesday about an in-state guard that Williams recently watched and five-star Cole Anthony has been on the Tar Heels radar recently as well.

On Thursday, a new target has put the Tar Heels in the running by adding them to his list.

Five-star point guard Nico Mannion recently reclassified from 2020 to 2019 and instead of cutting down his list, he decided to add two teams to it.

Mannion announced on Thursday that he is adding two blue blood programs to his list in the Tar Heels and Kentucky Wildcats. Those are two pretty big schools to be adding on at this point in his recruitment.

The guard offered some insight on the recent change while at the Under Armour Association Finals in Las Vegas.

"“North Carolina did call, Kentucky called,” Mannion said via Tuscon.com. “I didn’t get to talk to Roy (Williams, UNC coach) but my dad talked to him. I talked to (Kentucky coach John) Calipari twice in the last week.”"

With Mannion reclassifying to 2019, he becomes one of the top guards in the class and has elevated his play of late.

As far as the status on his recruitment, Mannion is hoping to cut down his list of schools sometime after this July evaluation period ends this weekend. With the Tar Heels recently getting involved, it will be interesting to see if they do make his final list in the coming weeks.

From there, UNC would certainly love to have him on campus for an official visit to progress the recruitment. He plans on announcing his decision in either January or February.

The Tar Heels do have point guard Jeremiah Francis verbally committed in the 2019 class but Williams has made it no secret he wants to add more guards. The head coach has recently watched a few point guards in July and wants some depth at the position.
