UNC Football: Quinshad Davis working on Tar Heels’ staff
By Zack Pearson
Former UNC standout Quinshad Davis is back in Chapel Hill working with the football team this year
Wide receiver Quinshad Davis had an impressive career at the University of North Carolina, playing four seasons with the Tar Heels and providing some memorable moments.
Davis left UNC as the program’s all-time leader in touchdown receptions with 25 and is considered one of the best receivers to play at the school. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions in 2016 but remained on the team’s practice squad.
After a stint in Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Bombers in 2017, Davis is now back with the Tar Heels’ football program as he hopes to leave his mark on this program.
Inside Carolina’s Ross Martin wrote a great piece on Davis returning to the program as a graduate assistant, working with only the wide receivers. Davis spoke with Martin recently to provide some insight on the new role.
"“Mostly I am going to be out there helping receivers with routes, whatever (coach) Luke (Paschall) needs me to do,” Davis said in a recent interview with Inside Carolina. “Drawing up plays. Getting the plays to the receivers… make sure they know what they need to know for that day.”"
Davis helped lead the Tar Heels to the Coastal Division title in 2015 and had arguably the most important touchdown of that season, helping UNC beat Virginia Tech on the road. His role now will include teaching a core of wide receivers that is young and talented as the Tar Heels hope to turn this thing around.
Both Anthony Ratliff-Williams and Thomas Jackson return as the veterans on this receiving core and they are joined by the youth on the roster in Beau Corrales and Dazz Newsome. There are playmakers on this offense but it just needs to all come together no matter who is the starting quarterback.
Davis isn’t the only former Tar Heel back on the team to help out.
According to Martin, both Shakeel Rashad and Jeff Schoettmer are also graduate assistant coaches for this season.
