UNC Basketball: Tar Heels showing interest in new 2019 PG
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program has reportedly shown interest in a new 2019 point guard target
Roy Williams and his University of North Carolina Tar Heels basketball staff already has one point guard verbally committed in the 2019 class as Jeremiah Francis made his decision in August of 2018. But that might not stop them for adding more.
Williams and his staff have shown recent interest in 2019 point guard Tre Mann after watching him at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam last week.
Following his final game on Friday night, Mann decided to announce to reporters that he was reopening his recruitment. Inside Carolina first reported on the story of Mann reopening his recruitment and UNC’s interest last
The Florida native previously had a top three of Florida, Kansas and Tennessee before reopening his recruitment.
On Saturday, Dan McDonald of Rivals tweeted out confirmation that Mann has reopened his recruitment and some new teams are involved. With Mann’s recruitment back open, the Tar Heels have made a phone call to Mann showing their interest.
In addition to the previous top three schools and UNC, both Iowa State and NC State are also showing interest in the four-star guard. Mann is currently ranked No. 32 in the 2019 class and the No. 5 point guard and No. 5 player in the state of Florida according to 247 Sports.
With this new development in his recruitment, anything can happen now and there’s no word just yet on when he will take his official visits.
The Tar Heels could get one of his five officials and could land in his top list when he releases one again.
Even with Francis signed and UNC showing significant interest in point guard Cole Anthony, going after Mann isn’t a bad thing. It’s unlikely they land both Mann and Anthony, but showing the interest in both could net them at least one.
