Will Roy Williams and the UNC Basketball staff finally offer this five-star guard from the 2019 recruiting class. The latest on what could happen in the coming weeks

The first evaluation period of July begins next week as the AAU circuit ramps up once again headlined by the Peach Jam. Dozens of coaches are expected to be in South Carolina for the annual tournament which will showcase some of the top talent in high school basketball.

This period offers coaches the opportunity to scout players they are targeting in future recruiting classes and even extend an offer to players. University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams and his staff are expected to be out on the recruiting trail and could possibly extend some offers to recruits they are interested in.

One of those recruits could be Josh Green.

The five-star Florida product has been on UNC’s radar for weeks now after Williams and his staff watched him play at an AAU event in Indianapolis back in April. Rivals reporter Corey Evans said to keep an eye on UNC a week ago in regards to Green and now he’s doubling down on that statement.

Evans wrote in his Tuesday Twitter mailbag that Green checks a lot of boxes for the Tar Heels and he doesn’t see them not pursuing him:

"We discussed in detail last week what is ahead for North Carolina and Josh Green and I believe that Carolina will ultimately offer Green. Seeing that Green is someone that checks a lot of boxes for a program like North Carolina, there is no reason why the Tar Heels wouldn’t pursue him."

Green has elevated his play in his junior year and currently has a total of 27 offers including from Arizona, Kansas, Villanova, UCLA and Virginia among others.

Both UNC and Kentucky have shown interest recently and they could be the next schools to offer him soon. For UNC, it makes some sense to at least extend an offer to him.

The Tar Heels will lose Cam Johnson and Kenny Williams to graduation and Nassir Little is likely headed to the NBA after a season at UNC. That opens up a big spot on the wing, where the 2019 shooting guard could take over.

Adding Green to the 2019 class would give the Tar Heels two guards, with the other being point guard Jeremiah Francis. It will also help fill a void at the position. With the Tar Heels still targeting some big men in Armando Bacot, Will Baker, and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, the 2019 class has the potential to be another big one for Williams and his staff.

It wouldn’t be shocking to hear an offer from UNC to Green in the coming weeks.
