Roy Williams and the UNC Basketball staff have been in contact with a new prospect in the 2019 class

With the evaluation periods beginning again in July, the North Carolina Tar Heels can begin watching and evaluating recruiting targets again. The first evaluation period of the month begins on July 11th, lasting until the 15th and then picking up again on the 18th.

In all there is three evaluation periods this month and we expect Roy Williams and his staff to be very busy with appearances at AAU events including the Peach Jam.

With Williams working on this 2019 class that has a verbal commit from Jeremiah Francis, he’s still targeting some big wings and post players. The latest is a power forward from the Midwest who has improved his game and is a Top 25 player in the class.

According to Clint Jackson of Tar Heel Illustrated, Williams and his staff have reached out to five-star power forward Trayce Jackson-Davis. The Indiana native has been impressive on the EYBL stage playing for Indy Heat in the Spring sessions.

Jackson-Davis already has 15 offers and could receive another one this month from the Tar Heels if he continues his stellar play. Indiana, UCLA, Wake Forest, Purdue, and Michigan State are among the schools that have offered Jackson-Davis, so UNC will have some big competition.

Tar Heel Illustrated spoke with Jackson-Davis who revealed that Williams was impressed with his play and that the Tar Heels are “highly interested” in him.

"“Yes, Coach Williams has told me about their offense and that they watched me over USA and they want to know more about me and get to know me,” he said. “He also talked about the position and how they are inside-out and how their bigs get to do more than just post up.“North Carolina and Coach Williams said that they are highly interested.”"

Jackson-Davis will continue to play for the Indy Heat in the July evaluation period as the program will compete in next week’s Peach Jam.

Joining Jackson-Davis on the Indy Heat is fellow UNC target Keion Brooks. The small forward recently listed UNC as one of his top 10 schools and the Tar Heels could be looking at landing both recruits out of the Midwest.

With UNC coaches expected to be at the Peach Jam, things could start to heat up in regards to Jackson-Davis and an offer. From there, the recruit could use one of his five officials on UNC before  making a decision.
