Tar Heels could be next to offer four-star shooting guard

North Carolina’s Roy Williams has always been a fierce competitor on the recruiting trail, and at 67 years of age and entering his 31st season as a head coach, he doesn’t appear to be slowing down.

In fact, he may just be hitting his stride.

Williams has been one of the busiest head coaches on the recruiting trail in recent months, putting a full-court press on the classes of 2019 and 2020. His list of targets is amassing both with front court and back court players, looking to solidify the Tar Heels’ future with the best prospects that high school basketball has to offer.

And while he’s largely been linked to post players this offseason, he’s keeping tabs on a number of guards, too.

One of those guards is Kira Lewis, a 6-foot-3, 160-pound shooting guard out of Hazel Green High School in Hazel, Alabama. As THI’s Clint Jackson outlined, Lewis is a gifted scorer with loads of speed and athleticism. He’s good with or without the ball in his hands, and has the ability to play the point guard position, too.

He already has more than two-dozen scholarship offers, and that includes some of the most prestigious programs in college basketball. Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Oregon and Tennessee are among them, and more are likely to come in the days ahead.

He did, however, mention a couple of programs that have not yet offered, that he would like to hear from.

"“Duke and Carolina. Both of them have a huge history of success. I would love to get an offer from them,” Lewis said."

According to Lewis’ AAU program director, both schools have reached out to inquire about the four-star prospect. Nothing is for sure, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see either program, or both, extend a scholarship offer before his recruitment concludes.
