Coby White is earning some more recognition on the national stage, this time making the initial cut for Team USA

University of North Carolina recruit Coby White continues to impress before he even steps foot on campus.

The Wilson, North Carolina native had a dominant senior season at Greenfield High School including setting a new scoring record at the John Wall Classic. He was consistent all season long and broke the all-time scoring record for the state of North Carolina as he saw his recruit ranking climb the charts due to the hot play.

But his latest accomplishment is just another to add to his already impressive resume.

White was one of 18 players that made the initial cut for the Team USA Basketball Under-18 Team, announced on Sunday. The first cuts were made by the USA Basketball Junior National Team Committee after a week-long training session featuring 33 of the best players in the country.

The remaining 18 players will continue to train at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado for the next three days as the committee plans to trim the final roster to 12. That announcement will come prior to June 7th when the team departs for Canada to play in the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship from June 10th-16th.

Not only was White named as one of the 18 finalists on Sunday, but scouts also raved about his play throughout the entire training session.

Rivals.com’s Corey Evans sent out a series of tweets mentioning White and his scoring abilities while at the camp:

247 Sports’ recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer also had a positive note about White, saying that he “likes him more and more every time he has scouted him” over the years.

White competing at a high level with some of the best recruits in the country is a really good thing for the Tar Heels. The 2019 class might be highlighted by Top 10 recruit Nassir Little, but White continues to improve and the combo guard could be the key piece in that class.

While we still have a few more months until we see White in Chapel Hill playing for the Tar Heels, he’s already making a positive impact on the national stage.
