The start time for the 2018 season opener between Cal and UNC Football has been officially announced

The 2017 college football season didn’t go as planned for the North Carolina Tar Heels as they finished dead last in the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division and missed out on a bowl game.

The team was hit hard by the injury-bug and never really got on track as they failed to be consistent. It was easily the worst season under head coach Larry Fedora and it came two years after the team won the ACC Coastal Division and was ranked in the top 20 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

But now the focus has shifted to the 2018 season which begins in August with training camp, followed by the season opener at Cal on September 1st.

This will be the second game of a home-and-home series between the two teams with the Cal Golden Bears coming into Chapel Hill in Week 1 of the 2017 season and winning. It was a shocking win for Cal, especially going across country on the road into a very early start for them.

On Thursday, the Pac-12 finally announced the start times for the first few weeks of the 2018 season and with the game being at Cal, they released the time for the UNC opener. The two teams will kickoff at 1 p.m. PST, meaning it will be a 4 p.m. kickoff Chapel Hill time.

The game will be broadcasted nationally on Fox as part of the season kickoff.

With the game being on the West Coast, it will be a different kick-off time than normal for UNC.

It wasn’t an excuse last season when Cal came in and shocked the Tar Heels at Kenan Memorial Stadium last year and UNC is looking for revenge. Cal came in and stole one and celebrated, rightfully so, on UNC’s field.

Getting off to a 1-0 start with a road win across the country would be huge for Fedora and the program. It would also signal that the team is improving during this rebuild.
