Roy Williams is starting to make a 2019 forward a priority and has watched him in back-to-back weekends

University of North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams hit the AAU circuit for the second evaluation period in April. After watching several 2019 and 2020 on the first weekend, Williams was back at it again last weekend.

One of the recruits that Williams has been watching is 2019 forward Jalen Wilson.

Tar Heels assistant Brad Frederick was in Atlanta on Saturday to watch Wilson as part of the adidas Gauntlet circuit and Wilson impressed once again. He’s starting to ascend the rankings with his excellent play over the past few weeks and is now considered a top 40 recruit.

While Wilson isn’t close to narrowing down his schools or making a decision, it appears as if five programs are really prioritizing him.

According to Rivals’ reporter Evan Bossi, the Tar Heels are among those schools.

Bossi wrote on Sunday that the Tar Heels were watching Wilson over the weekend for the second-straight week but he also had some good bit of info. Wilson told Bossi that UNC, Kansas, Michigan, Baylor and Marquette were the five schools that were really recruiting him hard.

He’s taken unofficial visits to Kansas and has hosted Baylor, Marquette and Michigan for in-homes over the past few months.Wilson hasn’t visited Chapel Hill and coaches haven’t done an in-home just yet. But with the recent surge in interest, that’s likely coming soon for the forward.

The Denton, Texas native will head to Michigan for a visit next weekend.

The Tar Heels started to take an interest in Wilson back in December when assistant coach Steven Robinson was on a recruiting trip to Texas. He watched Will Baker and while doing so, Wilson caught his eye.

With Baker and Wilson both being targets for the Tar Heels, Williams appears to be tapping into that Texas pipeline that most recently produced Justin Jackson.

Next: Is UNC losing ground on Wendell Moore?

This recruitment is something to keep an eye on as the Tar Heels are hoping to add an athletic wing to its 2019 recruiting class.
