After stumbling out of the gates, the Diamond Heels are finally living up to their potential. They will use this slow week to rest and prepare for the home stretch.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are coming off of their first sweep of NC State in Raleigh in program history.

But this week, they will find some time to get some much needed rest and relaxation before heading into the home stretch.

More from UNC Baseball

The Diamond Heels started out awfully slow. Many questioned their preseason ranking and whether they deserved it or not. But here we are at the end of April, and the Tar Heels have rounded into form.

North Carolina has won 22 of its last 27 games without arguably their best pitcher, Gianluca Dalatri. The Diamond Heels are now back in the top five of Baseball America’s top 25.

They have won these games in every way possible. They’ve won close games and they’ve won blowouts. They’ve won pitcher’s duels and high scoring games.

And now the Tar Heels are 2.5 games ahead of Duke for the best record in the coastal division in the ACC. They also have a one-game lead over Clemson for the best record in the entire conference.

But instead of having an ACC series this week, they will just play their regular weekday game. On Tuesday, the Tar Heels will welcome UNC Asheville to Boshamer Stadium for a one-game set.

After that, North Carolina will have a week off until the next Tuesday when the Tar Heels will welcome the Richmond Spiders to Chapel Hill.

As far as what is left for the Diamond Heels in the ACC, they still have a huge series at Duke coming up next weekend. This series will likely decide the coastal division, because the two teams are head and shoulders above the rest of the division.

Then the Tar Heels have one more series left with Virginia Tech before they close out the regular season.
