NFL Draft: Potential Landing spots for Austin Proehl
Arizona Cardinals
Let’s start with the Arizona Cardinals who finished 12th in the league last year in receptions and 20th in receiving touchdowns. This offseason they lost Jaron Brown to the Seattle Seahawks and John Brown to the Baltimore Ravens.
The Browns combined for 51 receptions for 776 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Though Jaron was more of an outside threat, John was more of slot guy opening up an ideal hole for Austin Proehl to step into.
Additionally, the Cardinals top receiver, Larry Fitzgerald is probably close to retiring and infusing some young blood would be good for Arizona who didn’t add any wide receivers in free agency despite the losses.
The Cardinals could draft Proehl late in the seventh round with the 247th overall pick or try to appeal to him as an undrafted free-agent.
The biggest knock on Arizona would be at quarterback. Projected starter Sam Bradford has a history of injuries and only played in two games this past season for the Minnesota Vikings.
Meanwhile, his back-up is Mike Glennon who struggled as a starter last season for the Chicago Bears. Glennon went 1-3 as a starter throwing five interceptions before being replaced by former Tar Heel Mitch Trubisky.
Though the Cardinals could draft a quarterback in the draft, the best would all be gone before Arizona picks at number 15, meaning the odds are what is currently there is what will be available, making them less appealing if they don’t draft him.
