Cameron Johnson returns to UNC, leads the team in scoring next season.

When Cameron Johnson committed to UNC, he was a grad transfer with two years of eligibility. He missed the early parts of last year because of a knee injury, but when he was on the court, he was one of the Tar Heels’ best scorers.

With the departure of Joel Berry, that is one less player Johnson will have to fight with for shots and points. Johnson will have full freedom as to what shots he wants to get, should he come back.

Luke Maye could see a decline in points because of the emergence of Sterling Manley and Garrison Brooks. Maye will not have to carry the frontcourt next year like he did much of this year.

Coby White and Nassir Little will pick up some of the shots that Joel Berry and Theo Pinson will leave behind, but Johnson will play far more minutes than those two guys.

Johnson averaged 12 points per game this past year on 10 shots per game. Next year, Johnson will be able to take around 14 shots per game. If he can become a little bit more efficient from the field, there is no reason he cannot up his points per game to around 17 points per game.

Johnson has shown for two consecutive years that he can score double-digit points per game in the ACC, and him being a year older and more experienced next year can only help him.

Johnson will be the go-to-guy for the Tar Heels next year.
