Roy Williams will be on the recruiting trail on Tuesday night to visit a very important 2019 recruit

Before the North Carolina Tar Heels open up their 2018 NCAA Tournament vs. Lipscomb on Friday, head coach Roy Williams is hitting the recruiting trail.

The Tar Heels held their media session on Tuesday in Chapel Hill as they discussed the upcoming weekend ahead in Charlotte. But following that session, Williams has some big plans for the night.

According to Rivals recruiting expert Corey Daniels, Williams is taking a trip to visit Vernon Carey Jr. on Tuesday night.

Carey Jr. is a five-star recruit and the No. 1 overall player in the 2019 recruiting class. He’s a highly-sought after recruit and the Tar Heels have their eye on him.

Williams has already been able to land a commitment from point guard Jeremiah Francis, a top 50 recruit in the class and has interest in Ashton Hagans who de-committed from Georgia. Landing Carey Jr. would be the center piece to the 2019 class and give Williams a five-star recruit for the third-straight year.

Carey Jr. narrowed his list down to eight back in October: Michigan State, Kansas, Miami, Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, UCLA and Florida.

According to the 247 Sports Crystal Ball, the Blue Devils are the favorites to land Carey Jr. holding a 54 percent chance. In-state Miami and Michigan State hold a 23 percent chance each.

As for UNC’s involvement, well they aren’t out of the race. Carey Jr. visited UNC back in December while playing in the John Wall Invitational. Since then, his recruitment has been relatively quiet until now.

Carey Jr. likely won’t make a decision right and it could be months before one comes.
