2018 NCAA Tournament: West Region preview
Matchups we want to see
Gonzaga vs UNC
Who wouldn’t want to see a rematch of last years national championship game?
The two teams look a little different this year but reliving the magic of what a great game that was would be a treat for all college basketball fans.
The Bulldogs are led by Johnathan Williams this year, who is averaging 13 points per game. He was a part of the runner-up team they had last year. Josh Perkins and Killian Tilley are also back for Gonzaga and are both significant contributors for the Bulldogs.
The only way this matchup can happen is in the Elite 8. Gonzaga would have to get through number one-seeded Xavier most likely and hope the Tar Heels hold up to their end of the bargain as well.
Xavier vs Florida State
Another potential rematch of last years tournament would be a game between Xavier and ninth seeded Florida State.
The two teams met in the second round last year and it was not pretty for Florida State. The Seminoles were a three seed and ran into the Xavier after the Musketeers pulled the upset in the first round as an eleven seed.
Xavier won the game 91-66 and advanced to the Sweet 16.
The rematch this year would look much different, but the result could be the same. Xavier is a much better, more well-rounded team than the Seminoles. Florida State would need to get through Missouri in the first round and Xavier would need to avoid the sixteen seed upset also.
