Here’s where the Tar Heels stand in the latest mock brackets just a week before Selection Sunday

The annual Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament tips off on Tuesday night in Brooklyn, New York beginning a five-day span where a champion will be crowned on Saturday night.

It’s the last chance for teams to make a statement before Selection Sunday on March 11th and either improve or see their seed drop.

North Carolina is entering the tournament losing two-straight games including a home one to Miami on Senior Night. The second loss to Duke on the road dropped them to 6th in the conference due to tiebreakers.

But even with the two losses, UNC’s seeding in the NCAA Tournament didn’t take a huge hit according to some latest mock brackets.

As we head into the week, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has released his latest Bracketology and there’s some good and bad news for UNC. The Tar Heels are still a No. 2 seed in the tournament but they are in a loaded region.

Lunardi has the Tar Heels out West playing their first two rounds in Nashville. He has them in the same region as No. 1 Kansas, No. 3 Michigan State, No. 4 Arizona, No. 5 Gonzaga and No. 6 Arizona.

The Bracketologist still has Virginia, Villanova, Xavier and Kansas as his No. 1 seeds with Cincinnati, Duke, UNC and Purdue as the No. 2 seeds.

Here’s a look at where UNC stands in other mock brackets:

Bracketville  (Updated March 5)—No. 3 seed in East Region vs (14) UNC-Greensboro. No. 1 seed: Villanova, No. 2 seed: Michigan State, No. 4 seed: Texas Tech. Notable other teams: Ohio State (5), Kentucky (6), Florida State (9), Syracuse (12).

Jerry Palm on CBS (Updated March 5) — No. 3 seed in West Region vs. (14) Montana. No. 1 seed: Kansas, No. 2 seed: Michigan State, No. 4 seed: Arizona. Notable other teams: Ohio State (5), Virginia Tech (8), Oklahoma (10).

Real Time RPI (Updated March 4) —No. 2 seed in East Region vs. (15) Montana.  No. 1 seed: Villanova, No. 3 seed: Clemson, No. 4 seed: Cincinnati.

Brad Evan’s Bracket Big Board on Yahoo! Sports (Updated March 3) — No. 2 seed (Eighth overall).

As always this could change before Selection Sunday, especially with the conference tournaments this week.

A deep run for UNC could help their region location and keep them in a two or three seed. With a lot left to play out a week before Selection Sunday, make sure you check back with Keeping It Heel for the latest.
